Cormac Foley's pathway runs through St Gerard's School, the Leinster underage system, Ireland U20 and Leinster. A scrum-half with a sharp attacking instinct, he was already making an impact at underage level before he reached the senior provincial squad.

His Ireland U20 story includes one of the more memorable early moments in his pathway. Foley came off the bench to score the match-winning try against England in Cork in 2019, then was promoted to start against Scotland the following week. That sort of underage moment matters in a player bio because it shows more than selection; it shows a player influencing a serious representative game.

Foley moved into the Leinster Academy for 2020/21 and made his senior Leinster debut from the bench against Munster during the Rainbow Cup in 2021. He later signed a senior contract, becoming part of a scrum-half group that has included Luke McGrath, Jamison Gibson-Park and Fintan Gunne.
