John McKee gives Leinster's current hooker group a pathway that starts outside the province. A Belfast native, he came through Campbell College Belfast before moving into the Leinster system, bringing an Ulster schools background into the Leinster Academy and senior squad.

His school profile has a major headline. McKee captained Campbell College Belfast to an Ulster Schools Cup title in 2018, giving him one of the strongest school captaincy markers in the current Leinster squad. He also captained Ireland at underage level and was involved with the Ireland U20 group that won the 2019 Six Nations Grand Slam.
